This book kicks off a charming cozy mystery series set in an ice cream shop—with a fabulous cast of quirky characters.

Recent MBA grad Bronwyn Crewse has just taken over her family’s ice cream shop in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and she’s going back to basics. Win is renovating Crewse Creamery to restore its former glory, and filling the menu with delicious, homemade ice cream flavors—many from her grandmother’s original recipes. But unexpected construction delays mean she misses the summer season, and the shop has a literal cold opening: the day she opens her doors an early first snow descends on the village and keeps the customers away.

To make matters worse, that evening, Win finds a body in the snow, and it turns out the dead man was a grifter with an old feud with the Crewse family. Soon, Win’s father is implicated in his death. It’s not easy to juggle a new-to-her business while solving a crime, but Win is determined to do it. With the help of her quirky best friends and her tight-knit family, she’ll catch the ice cold killer before she has a meltdown…

About Abby Collette

Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author Abby Collette loves a good mystery. Born and raised in Cleveland, it’s even a mystery to her why she has yet to move to a warmer place. Author of the two Southern cozy mystery series Logan Dickerson Mysteries featuring a second-generation archaeologist and a nonagenarian who is always digging up trouble, and the Romaine Wilder Mysteries, set in East Texas, it pairs a medical examiner and her feisty auntie who owns a funeral home and is always ready to solve a whodunnit. Abby spends her time writing, facilitating writing workshops at local libraries and spending time with her grandchildren, each of which are her favorite.

Q&A With Abby Collette

How long did it take you to get your first work published (from creation to actual book)? What was your first published work?

I’m a hybrid author and the first book I published was as an indie author. So that was easy to get out into the world. Just uploaded it to Amazon and voila! Amazon did the rest. And lucky for me, my foray into the traditionally published forum was pretty easy too. I was doing a promotion of my self-published book, Bed & Breakfast Bedlam with a small press. The promotion required me to donate a book for a giveaway. After they approved my book, they emailed me and asked could they publish me! That was a shocker, but made me so happy. I had been self-publishing for about four years at that time. Then, before my first book, Secrets, Lies and Crawfish Pies came out an agent contacted me for representation. Needless to say, I was blown away. I got my agent in April and by January I had a deal with Berkley (Penguin Random House). Certainly a rollercoaster ride!

Are you a Plotter (one who plans or plots out every detail of the writing process) or Pantser (one who writes by the seat of his/her pants)?

Ha! I am a Pantser. I write as I go. No outline and my only plan at the beginning is that my main character has to solve the murder. I just never know which way my characters are going to take the story. I’m mostly just along for the ride.

What advice do you have for a new writer?

Finish. That. Manuscript. So many writers I’ve spoken to have numerous stories they’re writing or they’ve been working on their story “for years.” I say focus and get it done.

What is the easiest part of the writing process for you?

There is no easy part! It is all hard. From picking out the names of my characters to creating clues, I struggle to bring it all together. And all the time I’m worrying that it’s a good story and readers will enjoy it. I think that the best part about writing is that I get to do what I love.

What is your favorite part of this story?

I write murder mysteries, and I love it when the bad guy goes down. So my favorite part is the end when it all comes together!

Wait! Stop! Are you leaving the same old comment on all the blog pages? Try switching things up a bit. I love reading your comments, but if its the same thing each time... it feels like spam. And NO ONE likes spam...
