Still Knife Painting
Still Knife Painting (A Paint & Shine Mystery)
by Cheryl Hollon
Ms. Hollen has a beautiful
way of relating the past and wrapping it into a present-day mystery. I
enjoyed Still Knife Painting and can’t wait for the next book in the
series to see what Miranda is up too.

Miranda Trent has set up a sweet life in a scenic corner of Appalachia—until she stumbles across the trail of a killer . . .
After inheriting her uncle’s Red River Gorge homestead in Eastern Kentucky—smack dab in the middle of the Daniel Boone National Forest—Miranda comes up with a perfect business plan for summer tourists: pairing outdoor painting classes with sips of local moonshine, followed by a mouthwatering sampler of the best in southern cooking.
To Miranda’s delight, Paint & Shine is a total success—until someone kills the cook. As the town’s outsider, suspicion naturally falls on Miranda. Murdering the best biscuit baker of Red River Gorge is a high crime in these parts. Miranda will have to prove her innocence before she’s moved from farmhouse to jail cell faster than she can say “white lightning” . . .
A few words from Miranda...
A main source of creativity for me is to experiment with various moonshine cocktails. This is a new favorite and I serve it along with Carr's Cracked Pepper Water Crackers topped with a generous slice of Wensleydale Cranberry Cheese.
1/2 tsp cranberry sauce (either homemade or store bought)
2 oz sparkling water
1 12 oz clear unflavored moonshine
Unsweetened cranberry juice
Fresh sprig of rosemary
Place the cranberry sauce in the bottom of an 8 oz mason jar
Add the sparkling water
Fill the jar halfway up with ice
Pour moonshine over ice
Top up with cranberry juice and stir
Garnish with sprig of rosemary
This is a refreshing and energizing cocktail. The cranberry juice is tart and gives me a boost
I enjoy this kind of research. It helps me relax after a stressful day dealing with problem clients and construction issues. Especially when the cocktails connect so strongly with my family. I feel closer to my beloved late Uncle Gene when I'm mixing up a moonshine cocktail. it gives me a great deal of comfort.

The book sounds like a fun read. This is an interesting setting. I have had my taste of "moonshine" and I'm not sure I'd like another! Best wishes to the author on the new release.
