Get ready to flip your wig over another groovy 1967 retro-cozy with actress and amateur spy Noelle McNabb. Spy agency SIAMESE (Special Intelligence Apparatus for Midwest Enemy Espionage and Surveillance) turns Noelle’s pet, Ceebee, into an “acoustic kitty” to listen in on an agent known only as Old Scratch. Meanwhile, a counterculture religious sect led by the Wise One infiltrates the staid town of Yuletide, Indiana. When one of the sect members makes a premature departure to the Spirit in the Sky, Noelle investigates, but finds herself in deep water—literally. With her undercover disguiser, Noelle really knows how to sock it to ‘em. However, she still can’t solve the secrets of a certain family member. Don’t miss this fab story of saints, sinners and spies!

A Word from Moonbaby...

 I’m Moonbaby,
and my old man is Rambler. I can’t give you our real names, ‘cause Rambler’s on the lam from The Man.
We both grew up in the same affluent, stodgy, middle-class, Midwestern neighborhood in the late 1950s-early 1960s. Then one day Rambler received a letter from Uncle Sam inviting him to a party the U.S. Army was hosting in Vietnam. We felt that killing was wrong, especially shooting people who never did us any harm. So we took the money our folks saved up for our college education and split the scene. We bought an old hearse, painted it, and drove out to the only safe haven for radicals like ourselves—the hippie communes.
We learned all about living off the grid and the natural life. But Rambler, he’s an independent old cuss who won’t be beholden to any group, even a good one. He preferred doing things his way, so we set out to find our own pad.
We bought an old, run down house near Yuletide, Indiana, just outside the city limits and out of reach of the local fuzz.  With some elbow grease and a lot of moaning from Rambler, it’s now a nifty little farm with cows, goats, chickens, dogs and a big vegetable garden. Most of what we eat is homegrown, and the things we use and wear are homemade too. Our water comes from a well so we don’t need to tap into the city water line. We were the original Do It Yourselfers long before it was a fad. We do this so we don’t support the military-corporate complex that’s running our country.
I make and sell craft items at the county fairs and outdoor rock festivals. Rambler earns some bread at a head shop he runs in Yuletide. The shop is a just a room tucked in the back of the Groovy Vinyl record store. Despite all the airs the locals put on, he’s made sales to some of the city’s finest.
Before you ask, yes, Ramble and me do enjoy the benefits of Mary Jane now and then. But we don’t force it on anyone who says no. You dig?
Most Yuletide residents turn up their noses at us, but Noelle McNabb is one of the beautiful people. She calls us her breath of fresh air in this uptight little town. She’s single and eking by on her jobs, so in return for her friendship we share some of our produce with her.
Rambler and me recently helped out Noelle when she was looking into the murder of a stranger who plopped down on her front porch. We hippies helped her find a key piece of evidence that locked up the killer. Did the city thank us for our efforts? Nawwww . . . . You can read about that in the book “Flower Power Fatality.”
Not long ago (don’t know exactly when ‘cause hippies don’t use clocks) I came to Noelle’s aid again when she needed to go undercover at a rally put on by some sort of religious sect. My buddy was investigating another local murder and also looking for a Ruskie spy. I raided my wardrobe and dressed her up as a funky hippie. She looked far out.
Noelle had someone with her named Destiny King. Now Rambler and me, we can sniff out a cop at 40 paces. Destiny, well, she weren’t no cop, but she was puttin’ out some mighty strange vibes. When I wanted to take her picture, she freaked out, like she had something to hide. Well, we all have our little secrets, don’t we? You can read about that in the book “Hippie Haven Homicide.”
So until Noelle needs us to help her solve another murder case, Rambler and me will tend to our farm, keep our heads down, and send out good energy for peace and love to all mankind.
