There’s a shooter on the loose who keeps missing his target. But that doesn’t stop him from trying again…and again. It’s up to Corrie Locke, rookie lawyer and spunky sleuth, to find the gunman before he hits his mark, Assistant Deputy D.A. James Zachary, Corrie’s hunky and complicated frenemy.

When Corrie is stuck with more questions than answers, she enlists a team with various strengths, from weapons to cooking skills, to help her find the shooter. Her computer whiz boyfriend Michael is onboard. So is former security guard Veera. Toss in an over-the-hill informant and a couple of feuding celebrity chefs and Corrie’s got her very own A-Team. Okay, maybe it’s more like a B-Team.

Can Team Corrie hunt down the shooter before he scores a bulls-eye?

The Best Weapon When It Comes to Catching Criminals

My name is Corrie Locke and I live in Southern California, Hermosa Beach to be exact, in a cozy little bootleg unit of a duplex owned by the world’s oldest living flight attendant. Since she’s usually busy flying the friendly skies, I don’t see her much, which suits me fine, especially in my line of work. And I’m not talking about my lawyer job.

I work in a movie studio during the day. I spend the rest of the time flying, but not like my landlady. I fly under the radar when I’m case-cracking. I blame my dad. He didn’t like his day job either, working as a college professor at UCLA, so he turned to private investigation once he discovered he had a knack for capturing criminals. Guess who inherited that knack? Weekends spent with Dad after the divorce meant I shadowed him on his investigations. He taught me all I needed to know about crime scenes, the criminal mind and weaponry, legal and otherwise.

Dad became an expert private investigator. I tagged along and helped him put felons behind bars. And then…that chapter of my life came to a sudden stop. That’s where Mom stepped in. She steered me toward law school, determined to make me a law abider. My law abiding days didn’t last long.

Crime happens around me and I can’t sit back and watch. I need to take action. How else can I get the armed and dangerous off the street, one criminal at a time?

Nothing compares to the thrill of taking down a criminal.  Helping humanity live in a safer world. That’s where my secret weapons come in. I have three of them that I can’t do without: my mostly trusty sidekicks.

Michael’s my best friend-slash-newest-boyfriend. He’s smart, knows his way around the kitchen, and is a computer wiz, which often comes in handy. He has an aversion to weaponry and violence, but he always steps up when I need him. In fact, I’m seeing a whole new side of him these days.

Then there’s Veera, a former security guard and my legal assistant at the movie studio.  Her positive attitude, common sense and connections in the security world make her quite an asset. Her not-so-secret ambition? To open up our own PI agency and leave the studio world behind. I’m starting to agree with her, except for the small problem of our needing a regular paycheck to survive.

What can I say about James? Hold on, while I check my pulse. There was a time when just saying his name would send my heartbeat into machine gun tempo. Not any more. He’s an assistant deputy DA and Michael’s other bestie. James is fearless and knows his way around weapons, almost as well as I do. His DA resources and skills help up our game.

My sidekicks are always along for the ride. Even the bumpiest ones. Friendship: it’s the best weapon when it comes to capturing a criminal.
