Hairstylist Marla Vail flushes out a killer when murder disrupts her mother’s home renovation plans in this stylish cozy mystery.

When hairstylist and savvy sleuth, Marla Vail, gets a frantic call from her mother that there’s a dead body in her shower, Marla realizes this wasn’t part of the home renovation plans. The victim turns out to be the project manager, who had an untrustworthy reputation in town. Disgruntled customers, unpaid suppliers, and the design company’s staff are among the suspects. Which one of them wanted the foreman to pipe down about their shady dealings?

Meanwhile, the lead investigator sets his sights on Marla’s stepfather, Reed, who’s keeping secrets from his family. Reed has a past connection to the victim and won’t come clean about what he knows. As Marla drills deeper, she’s showered with suspicions, but nobody’s willing to leak any information. She needs to hammer down the prospects, or time will drain away and the murderer will strike again.

To flush out the culprit, Marla taps into her pipeline of resources. Can she assemble the clues and demolish the alibis to nail a killer? Or has someone designed the perfect murder?

Character Guest Post

My name is Marla Vail. I’m 39, married, and live in South Florida with my husband, Dalton. He works as a homicide detective while I own a salon and day spa. Our life changed ten months ago when I gave birth to my first child. Nobody prepared me for the chaos that followed. You don’t know utter terror until you’ve brought home from the hospital a tiny infant whose every need is dependent on you. Sleepless nights, frantic calls to the pediatrician, and an endless supply of diapers ensued. Thank goodness for online ordering!

I used to help my husband solve murder cases but not anymore. Since the arrival of Ryder Harrington Vail into our lives, I’ve been devoted to our son’s care when I am not at work. At least, that had been my intent until Ma called me one day screaming there was a dead body in her shower. Oy vey! How could I refuse this call to action?

Now I’m embroiled in another murder case and trying to juggle crime solving with baby care and maintaining my client list. Things don’t look too good for my stepdad. The lead investigator suspects he’s keeping secrets, and Reed won’t tell my mom what’s going on. I have no choice except to stay on the case.

One good thing to come out of it is that my stylists are doing the hair for contestants of a beauty queen pageant at a local garlic festival. I like to cook, and I’m hoping to pick up some new recipes at this event. Unfortunately, I don’t have as much time as I’d like to experiment in the kitchen these days. Quick and easy meal prep has become my motto.

In the meantime, Dalton and I don’t know who we can trust. My mother’s bathroom remodel is at a halt since the dead guy was the project foreman. I’m busy interviewing their company’s staff and suppliers, while Dalton looks into their finances. Once we find the culprit, my mother’s life can return to normal. That can’t happen quick enough for my peace of mind.
