Nobody ever plans to be the death of the party.

Party guests congratulate Charity Basham, owner of Sassy Supplies Crafts & More, on the scariness of her backyard skeleton decoration. Unfortunately, Charity didn’t put out any skeleton decorations.

With the discovery of a dead body, her Halloween party turns into a nightmare. With her fingerprints (and some white cat fur) are all over the murder weapon, Charity finds herself at the top of the suspect list.

Can she clear her name before the dishy Detective Sota arrests her for murder?

Q&A With the Author

When did you first consider yourself to be a writer?

There were two separate instances. As a teenager, I had a poem I’d written accepted into an anthology which fueled the fire that “I can write. I’m doing this.” Validation, if you will. The day that I decided to be a writer, an author in charge of my own prospects, was the day I took the leap and hit publish on a children’s book many, many years later. It was then that I decided I was being a writer and that I would continue to be one.

What advice do you have for a new writer?

  1. Always, always, always keep writing.

  2. Yes. You need an editor. I needed an editor but I stayed in denial about it for a while. Now, I have a wonderful editor whom I love to work with that is one of the most positive, encouraging people who reads my work.

What is the easiest part of the writing process for you?

Imagining the characters and creating their personalities. It is the simplest, most fun part of the process. Their relationships and interactions with each other sometimes threatens to take over the actual plot and I have to set myself back on track.

What is your favorite part of this story?

My favorite thing about this story is bringing characters out to meet readers since it is a first in series. However, my favorite part of this series is that each book takes place during a busy holiday season. It has been fun tying in holiday crafts (the main character owns a craft supply store) with crimes.

Which Character was the most fun to write about? Why?

While I do love Charity Basham, my main character, Margo is probably the most fun to write. She is a secondary character in charge of a lot of comedic relief. And she talks a lot!

Which Character was the hardest to write about? Why?

The cat Jinx. LOL. A fluffy white Persian, he might not actually be difficult to write, he is just difficult to remember sometimes because I’m not actually a cat person. My main character decided to be, however, so I have to remember when Jinx is in a scene or not with her and that feline often wanders right off the pages. When he returns, he usually returns with a bang.
