The Time Traveling Matchmaker

The Time Traveling Matchmaker

by Janie Emaus

GENRE:   Time Travel Romance

In The Time Traveling Matchmaker, love takes on a new meaning when soul mates are brought together through time and space.

Like every goal-oriented twenty-something, Jessica Singleton, an aspiring filmmaker, is obsessed with finding her future as quickly as possible. What she doesn't know is that the future is obsessed with finding her, too. Renn Porter, an agent with Time Traveling Matchmaker's Inc, blasts back in time - and into her life- in order to transport Jessica to the soul mate who has paid for this service...in the future. But things turn dangerous when it's revealed that Renn has been sent after his own soul mate.

Caught between two times, Jessica and Renn must struggle to stay alive. Falling in love is the biggest risk either of them has ever taken - because, as they are destined to learn, the very existence of Time Traveling Matchmakers, Inc. rests in Jessica's hands.

Excerpt:

Renn stretched out on his bed, imagining Jessica by his side. He stared out his skylight at the night. His hand instinctively picked up the holo-mote to alter the view, but after spending time in the past, he wanted only to stare at reality. Stars salted the sky forming constellations he couldn’t name.

Renn knew it was going to take more than a piece of fabric to convict Natasha. He had to gather evidence of her tampering with Central Match and bring in witnesses. Those living happily-ever-after would be hard pressed to leave their homes and testify.

As for Arlianna, he suspected she was orbiting, trying to get home.

He had sent a dozen communications in response to her last one. It had been a cryptic message: stem cut. The image of her flower tattoo had been haunting him all day.

His mentor was a strong lady, but he feared she had been injured.

He picked up his cell phone. Jessica had said it was one of the smartest on the market, but it wasn’t smart enough to contact her. No, he would have to make another trip in person.

He turned on the sound wall to the Whitney Houston channel. As the songs played, he drifted off to sleep imagining Jessica in a long white dress similar to one her mother wore at the beach wedding.

Hand in hand they would dance until their feet hurt, without a worry in world.

Q&A With the Author

Who is your favorite author and why?

It’s hard for me to name one favorite author.  Right now, I’m looking forward to Sarah Addison Allen’s next book, Other Birds, due out at the end of August. I love her writing style, her character development. And the ways he weaves in the magical realism. But even more important is the uplifting nature of her stories. In today’ world, I read for entertainment and joy. Her books never fail to provide both.

What is your favorite quote and why?

“When there is no place left to fall, everything falls in place.” I have no idea who said this exact quote, except for my mother.  But I have found variations of it. To me, it’s a positive way of looking at the world. Even in the worst of times, we can laugh and find happiness.

What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?

Engaging characters who speak their truth. If the character has a strong, unique voice, I’ll follow wherever their story takes me.

What is your favorite part of this story?

The relationship between Natasha and Arlianna, the experienced Time Traveling Matchmakers, once best friends and now at each other’s throats.

Which Character was the most fun to write about? Why?

Arlianna was definitely the most fun. I based her after my sister. She’s the best Time Traveling Matchmaker in the organization. Her compassion and understanding made her a fabulous mentor. At this moment in time, I’m hoping she is safe and will find a way to connect Renn and Jessica.

Which Character was the hardest to write about? Why?

Jessica’s father, Jake, was difficult to pin down. He has no memory of his past and I had worked hard to make his cowboy dialect ring true and create a memorable father/daughter relationship.
