Mystery with a whiff of romance…After falling in love with the quiet lake life and a certain police detective, former Chicago Tribune reporter Emma Moore trades interviewing jocks for chasing champion cows at the county fair. As a small-town newspaper reporter, she covers local topics both big and small, but when her friend Luke is arrested for the murder of the head coach of his club softball team, she’ll need to hone her investigative skills to clear his name. Emma calls up best friend Grace for help, and together the women go up against cutthroat parents willing to kill for a chance to get their daughters onto a premier college sports team.

It’s the bottom of the ninth with bases loaded, and murder is up to bat. Can Emma and her friends bring the heat and win the game?

About Elizabeth McKenna

Elizabeth McKenna’s love of books reaches back to her childhood, where her tastes ranged from Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys to Stephen King’s horror stories. She had never read a romance novel until her sister gave her the latest bestseller by Nora Roberts. She was hooked from page one (actually, she admits it was the first love scene).

Her novels reflect her mercurial temperament and include historical romances, contemporary romances, cozy mysteries, and dark mysteries. With some being “clean” and some being “naughty,” she has a book for your every mood.

Elizabeth lives in Wisconsin with her understanding husband and Sidney, the rescue dog from Tennessee. When she isn’t writing, reading, editing, or walking the dog that never tires, she’s sleeping.

Q&A With The Author
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I’m not going to lie. Writing Murder up to Bat was a struggle, and it took me longer than usual to complete it. I started it days before the 2020 pandemic took over our lives. I didn’t write for almost two years with all of the chaos and tragedies. But eventually, I got my groove back, and the story became fun to write as I remembered when my children were young and living with me.

Do you have any other books you are working on that you can tell us about?

I am currently outlining a domestic thriller. Though the plot keeps changing, my working tagline is “Infidelity, drugs, and murder bring a respected small-town family to its knees.” I plan on drawing from things that have happened in my village.

Can you tell us about what you have planned for the future?

I like trying different genres. I was a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan back in the day, so a paranormal romance might be an option. I also read a lot of young adult books, so that might be fun as well.

How long have you been writing?

I published my first book, Cera’s Place, in 2011, but I think I started writing it around 2008. I remember my girls were in grade school and must have been discussing what they wanted to be when they grew up. I was a technical writer and editor at the time, and when they asked me what I had always wanted to be, I answered a novelist. When they asked why I wasn’t one, instead of explaining about bills and the need for a steady income, I started writing my first novel.

Anything more you would like to say to your readers and fans?

Thank you for spending some of your precious time with me, and I hope you enjoy my story.

Murder up to Bat is a quick read – as is The Great Jewel Robbery (Book 1). If you are new to the series, I encourage you to start with Book 1, though both are standalone stories. For September and October, the ebook version of The Great Jewel Robbery is discounted on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
