About Louise Marvin
Louise Marvin’s mother wrote Star Trek fanfiction in the 1980s, so it was only natural that Louise follows in her footsteps. FanFiction played a big part in Louise’s development and coincidence as a writer, inspiring her to try her hand at original fiction. THE CHAMOMILE CONSPIRACY is her first book. Louise lives in New England with an elderly cat and an extensive LEGO Star Wars collection and works at a medical cannabis facility.
Q&A With the Author What did you enjoy most about writing this book? I love worldbuilding! Creating the world of Honesty Harbor was so much fun, deciding on the little shops, the layout of the town, creating little backstories for her denizens. One of my favorite books is To Kill a Mockingbird, which is where I learned how to turn a setting into as much of a character as Pax and Sam. Harper Lee made her setting breathe, and that’s what I hoped to do when I wrote this book. The next book in the series is a ghost story and already finished, but the third book—currently in production—is more of a love story but with monsters. I’m very excited about it, I love the mystery and the new characters, and I finally get to take the romance to another level. It takes place in winter, which is coming up where I live in New England and I think it’ll make finishing the book even more enjoyable, when the weather matches the action! I think once The Seasons of the Witch series is finished, I’m going to focus on a new series I have in mind about a haunted hotel on the coast. I grew up in California, and one place I visited very often was the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. It’s gorgeous and historic, and allegedly haunted, and I’d love to set a story there. So look for that in the future! I wrote my first “book” when I was ten, so about thirty-five years ago now, but I’ve been writing in earnest since I was about fourteen and I conjured up a story of a genetically engineered mermaid. I knew I wanted to be a storyteller my whole life, though. I would conjure up elaborate worlds and plots with my toys, and once my mother overheard me and said I would be an amazing writer someday. She was one too—Star Trek fanfiction—and I took her prophecy to heart. Hope I measure up! It’s important to read what you want to read, not just what you think you should read. Sure, everyone’s talking about That Book That Really Makes You Think, but if you don’t want to read that book, you don’t have to. You can put that book down on the table and pick up the one next to it, the one about dragons and space pirates and mermaids playing baseball. If that’s more interesting to you, then that’s what you should read. You don’t have to impress anyone. There won’t be a book report. ☺
