Candlemaker Hazel Wickbury sets out again to bring the truth to light.

Iggy Alewell, Hazel Wickbury’s friend and candle shop assistant, is eager to purchase his own home with the advance from his first big book deal. Iggy is on the hunt for something with character, so what could be better than the old Cragmire house that’s rumored to have buried treasure somewhere on its property? Hazel is thrilled her friend has found success, but things in Crucible take a nasty turn when another potential buyer for the Cragmire house goes missing. He was last seen taking a boat out on Lake Glenmyre, and when the rental is found empty, it’s clear to police that foul play is involved.

What’s worse is that Iggy becomes the prime suspect in the man’s disappearance, and Detective Holden Whitfield’s thorny, new partner is certain Iggy is guilty. To clear Iggy from suspicion and dispel the darkness penetrating their beloved town, Hazel and her Aunt Poppy team up again to find a killer before their friend gets burned.

Return to Crucible in Too Much to Candle, Book Two in the award-winning Glenmyre Whim Mysteries.

Q&A With the Author

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

In Too Much to Candle, I loved exploring Hazel Wickbury's family background and discovering how the Glenmyres have protected the town of Crucible, New York, for as long as they have. The Glenmyres, who have a certain "magical" element about them, have a fascinating history, especially regarding their supernatural abilities. It was exciting to dig into their family lore and see how Hazel and her aunt Poppy can help move the family forward.

Also, Hazel lays the groundwork for adopting a furry feline friend in her first mystery outing, You Can't Candle the Truth. In Too Much to Candle, her dream becomes a reality in a touching, yet unexpected way. Writing those scenes was pure joy.

Do you have any other books you are working on that you can tell us about?

With four different cozy mystery series in the works, I feel like I always have something going on. I am currently working on Book Two in the Trending Topic Mystery series and preparing to launch a brand new series, the Book Blogger Mysteries, from TouchPoint Press next year. I'm also about 30,000 words into writing the next Court of Mystery book, which I hope to finish by the end of the year.

Can you tell us about what you have planned for the future?

More mystery and murder! While I plan to wrap up my Court of Mystery series at Book Ten, I am getting ready to launch a new spin-off series featuring fan-favorite characters Captain George Solomon and Countess Serafina Braeknoch.

I also am beginning to tinker with a new cozy mystery idea that came to me while recently traveling through the United Kingdom. There was lots of inspiration to be found, and I'm excited to see where it takes me.

How long have you been writing?

I've been creating stories for as long as I can remember, but I started writing seriously and pursuing publishing a little more than five years ago. Too Much to Candle will be the sixteenth book I've published since setting out on this journey.

Anything more you would like to say to your readers and fans?

I'm very active on social media and love hearing from readers, so please feel free to reach out! I also host a live-stream YouTube series with fellow cozy mystery author J.C. Kenney. Our show is called The Bookish Hour. We interview authors about their books, characters, and writing twice a month, and since we stream our show live, we can take questions and chat with our audience members. It's always a fun time. Our second season kicks off on October 13th with a special release celebration for Too Much to Candle.
