The Park Street Secrets

The Park Street Secrets

by Yvonne Van Lankveld

GENRE: Contemporary Fiction

A historic government office and police station in Niagara Falls, Ontario is redeveloped into seven condominiums. Some new residents have ties to its cultural heritage, while others bring secrets to keep there.

Siblings Lily and Rose must cohabit for one year or lose their inheritance, despite their animosity toward each other. Gracie Sheehan is determined to make a fresh start after many unexpected events force her to question her values and life goals. Young lovers move down the hall from a self-serving customs broker who always gets whom and what he wants.

Mix these unique characters with a medley of others, add a building manager with secrets of his own, and discover how Park Street becomes a chaotic blend of love, betrayal and the need for human connection.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Adrian sat in the office of the walk-in clinic, distancing himself from the other half dozen patients in various stages of discomfort. He hadn’t worked for the last two days because the weeping, itchy welts on his skin were ruining his clothes. He was pre-occupied by his romp in Darla’s bed, blaming her for gifting him with something terrible. When he asked Kelly at his office about seeing a doctor, she suggested the company physician. Leery of office leaks and gossip, he opted to attend a nearby clinic instead.

The clinic attendant, a middle-aged woman bursting out of her uniform, looked like she’d rather be anywhere else. When called, he followed her to a tiny room and sat on the paper-covered examination table for a long time with his shoes, socks and pants off as ordered by the attendant. He checked his messages and read all of the bulletin board posts, including where the sexual health clinic was, tacked under a bold sign that stated the clinic did not prescribe or keep narcotics on site.

The doctor who entered the room surprised Adrian. Expecting a crotchety old man in a tired lab coat, he instead saw an attractive young woman wearing scrubs that were covered by a disposable yellow isolation gown. Her lanyard confirmed her designation, and he suddenly felt embarrassed. She started the conversation immediately after donning purple examination gloves and zoning in on …
