The Fog Ladies are at it again, spunky senior sleuths and an overstressed young medical resident solving murders from their elegant apartment building in San Francisco. They join a senior dating group, and romantic intrigue soon turns to murder. Graham Parselle, lady killer extraordinaire, plunges off a cliff on a Senior Singles outing. Did one of his dates pitch him over? Or is Olivia Honeycut’s new beau to blame?

Frances Noonan tucked Olivia Honeycut into bed in the bedroom where the police had set up shop not long ago. Mrs. Honeycut didn’t know that. She wasn’t aware of a lot of what happened after she fainted. So much the better. She did not know the policeman had used her bed as a table to lay out his overcoat and his folder of notes. And she did not know about the crime scene cleaners who would arrive in an hour. Frances might never set foot in Mrs. Honeycut’s pantry again.

Alma Gordon called Mr. Glenn, and he was coming to take the Fog Ladies home. What remained of them. Sarah and Harriet Flynn were at the hospital. Frances was staying over. So only Alma Gordon and Enid Carmichael would ride with him.

“He said thirty minutes. His ball game is still on, and I told him to watch until the end. He thinks they’re in the last inning,” Alma said.

“Likely story,” Enid said. “We’ll be here all night.”

Frances made sure the bedroom door was closed, and she settled on the sofa next to Alma. Her stomach growled. No way was she going in that kitchen. Who knew what was behind that swinging door? Frances was not about to find out. Even Enid for once didn’t mention food, though she had certainly had her share of quiche and bruschetta earlier.

Frances hadn’t eaten since the luncheon. How long ago that seemed. When she confronted Malcolm about his wives, and when he begged Olivia to believe him when he said he loved her. If Frances had waited one more day, if Malcolm had died before this melodramatic scene, Olivia would never have known about his past. Would that be better? To be heartbroken that he was dead, or to have her heart broken because he lied? Frances didn’t know.

“Frances, wasn’t that knife they carted away one of the ones you brought tonight? Did you see all that blood? Thing must have been razor sharp.” Enid never minced words.

Yes, it was one of the newly sharpened knives. Would a dull knife cut anything at all, let alone kill so quickly?

Enid wasn’t done. “You couldn’t cut a carrot with Olivia’s knives before you got your hands on them, Frances. No way you could kill a man. Be like stabbing a person with a pipe cleaner. Kind of unlucky timing. For Malcolm.”

So some of Malcolm’s blood was on Frances. And some of Mrs. Honeycut’s heartache.
