From author Lena Gregory comes a hunt for more than just treasure…

Danika Delany is loving running her uncle’s old fashioned malt shop on eastern Long Island and putting her own modern spin on the treats they serve. Life is finally looking up for her! That is, until local billionaire Maxwell Crumbholtz dies and leaves his fortune in the form of a treasure hunt. Chaos descends on Watchogue, and Dani and the rest of the gang from the Coffee & Cream Café join the melee when they enter the contest, try to decipher the clues, and go in search of the treasure. But Dani digs up more than she expected when she discovers a dead body buried instead of a treasure! To make matters worse, a witness claims to have seen Dani at the scene of the murder. Now, instead of a four-billion-dollar payday, Dani is on the hunt for a killer.

About Lena Gregory

Lena Gregory is the author of the Bay Island Psychic Mysteries, which take place on a small island between the north and south forks of Long Island, New York, the All-Day Breakfast Café Mysteries, which are set on the outskirts of Florida’s Ocala National Forest, the Mini-Meadows Mysteries, set in a community of tiny homes in Central Florida, and the Coffee & Cream Café Mysteries, which take place in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, New York.

Lena grew up in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, but she recently traded in cold, damp, gray winters for the warmth and sunshine of central Florida, where she now lives with her husband, three kids, son-in-law, and four dogs. Her hobbies include spending time with family, reading, and walking. Her love for writing developed when her youngest son was born and didn’t sleep through the night. She works full-time as a writer and a freelance editor and is a member of Sisters in Crime.

Q&A With the Author:

What was your inspiration for writing this book?

The inspiration for the Coffee & Cream Café Mysteries came from the small town on eastern Long Island where I grew up working early mornings in my grandfather’s deli. I have such fond memories of my grandfather standing behind the counter, leaning forward, enjoying shooting the breeze with customers (the inspiration for Uncle Jimmie). My grandmother knew everyone by name, and assumed everyone else did too. She used to start off a conversation with, “Can you believe Jeremy did this, or did you hear Katrina did that?” As if you would automatically know who those people were.

When I decided to write a small café themed cozy, I wanted to capture that feel, to share that sense of community, of knowing your neighbors. But there’s a down side to that too. Not only do you know what all of your neighbors are doing, they are all aware of your deepest, darkest secrets as well. There’s nothing like getting into trouble and having your parents know about it before you even walk through the door.

In Double Scoop of Murder, a local eccentric billionaire leaves his fortune up for grabs in the form of a treasure hunt. The hunt not only draws people from all over, but grips the locals as well. As for inspiration, I love treasure hunts! Not only the idea of hunting for the treasure, searching for clues, and the anticipation of possibly finding billions of dollars, but the sense of camaraderie you get from working together as a team. Of course, along with all of that comes the competition from everyone else who also hopes to gain the vast fortune.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I love writing mysteries. I enjoy working out the puzzle, and I often don’t know who the killer is until the last few chapters. Double Scoop of murder was even more enjoyable to write, because it was just fun. I loved setting up the teams, pitting them against each other, and getting Dani and her friends into a few predicaments that weren’t easy to get out of.

Do you have any other books you are working on that you can tell us about?

Right now, I am working on the eight All-Day Breakfast Café Mystery and the fifth Coffee & Cream Café Mystery. While it’s fun to get back to Gia and the gang in Boggy Creek, Florida, I also can’t wait to return to Long Island and Danika and her friends. I am also working on an inspirational romantic suspense for Harlequin in another pen name.

Can you tell us about what you have planned for the future?

Right now, my plans include at least three more All-Day Breakfast Café Mysteries. I’m hoping to do at least four more Coffee & Cream Café Mysteries and a couple more Mini-Meadows Mysteries. After that, I’d like to return to the Bay Island Psychic Mysteries for at least one or two more books. I also have an idea for a new cozy series I’d love to explore, but that’s on the back burner while I work on all of these. Plus, I have four romantic suspense novels contracted that I write under a pen name, three young adult fantasies, and a middle grade fantasy series I’m working on. Did I mention I really love writing?

Anything more you would like to say to your readers and fans?

I would love to say thank you so very much to my readers and fans. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all of you and how important you are to me. I am so thrilled that you enjoy my stories, and I hope you’ll enjoy all of my new ones as well.

Thank you so much for having me!
